Please join us for a very special evening of music, as we celebrate the life of our dear friend Dwion Gates.
Longtime resident of the Bay Area, veteran of the music scene – as both an audience member and part of the crew at many venues – and avid enthusiast of Sequoia National Park where he helped to institute the first ADA accessible picnic area, Dwion’s circle of family and friends stretches far and wide.
He touched the lives of many, is personally responsible for instigating many long-lasting friendships, and his radiance warmed and brightened any space that he was in.
Animating the Sweetwater stage will be a revolving lineup featuring members of Mars Hotel, Grapefruit Ed, The Fall Risk, Ghosts of Electricity, Buffalo Roam, The Bluescasters, and Cubzilla, including Stu Allen, Rich Brodsky, Stacey Erdman, David Gans, Sammy Johnston, Pete Lavezzoli, Pat Nevins, Chuck Rosene, Phil Savell, Cubby Sedgewick, and more!
There will also be a silent auction; proceeds from the event will go into a college trust fund for Graham Gates (Dwion’s son).

This is a small festival, very limited number of tickets sold – but it’s got a BIG LINE-UP!
Several of the musicians are in more than one of these bands,
so that supports the festivals “Low Impact” Policy!
Located in the beautiful mountains of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, in a scenic natural amphitheater. No service fee tickets available DIRECTLY from the fest: Tickets page
Steve Block was a songwriter and guitar player, a BGP security guy, and a roadie for a number of bands, including Zero, the JGB, and David Nelson Band. He was sweet and loving and truly believed in rock and roll. He died of a heart attack last year, and a number of musicians are gathering at Slim’s (333 11th St., San Francisco) on January 12, 2012, 8 pm show time, to honor him and raise money for Sweet Relief, a nonprofit which helps musicians with medical expenses.
The musicians include:
“Steve Block Allstars”: Melvin Seals, Greg Anton, Stu Allen, Robin Sylvester, and guests.
David Nelson Band – David Nelson, Barry Sless, John Molo, Mookie Siegel, Pete Sears.
Act III: a couple dozen Bay Area musicians who loved Steve, including Patrick Campbell, Mark Karan, Peter Albin, Barry Flast, David Gans, Peter Harris, Inez Garcia, Bill Cutler, Joli Valenti, JC Flyer, Jessica Fierro, Pat Nevins, Steve Farzan, Dore Collier, Willow van den Hoek, Joe New, Steve Shufton, David Perper, Mari Mack, and Bill Laymon.
A splendid time is guaranteed for all. This will be a magical night of music, with some of Deaheadland’s favorite musician’s, and it’s all for a very good cause.

The performance was top notch and kept me shaking my bones the whole time. This was also a trip back in time for me with my old friend, the bassist Kevin Rosen. David Gans played during set break and opened with a nice Lazy River Road.

The Rhythm Devils w/Keller Williams have been killing in the last week with their new tour and lineup. Doing a great mix of Dead classics, thier own songs, and songs from bandmates Keller Williams and Davey Knowles. I have not heard a single bad comment, and everyone who has seen them has said that EVERYONE should see them! The Rhythm Devils are playing at Gathering of the Vibes Saturday July 31 at 9-11pm on the Main Stage.
The Devils will be followed by Primus, with Ratdog and Scaring the Children’s Jay Lane on drum.
In the course of 11 months, since Furthur debuted they have toured their asses off (and we have danced ours!) – reinventing the whole Dead experience for us, and each step going Furthur – from the expanded Furthur and Friends sets at Phil’s 70th, to the amazing album sets at Furthur Festival… and a stellar Summer Tour that included several festival stops. After a short break, the band warms up for two nights at the Nokia in Times Square – then the train goes to Bridgeport for Friday night at Gathering of the Vibes – playing two full sets from 9pm to 1 am!
So many others to see at Gathering of the Vibes!
