Mickey Hart Band Hits The Road In January

The Mickey Hart Band will be back on the road in January for a short run of East Coast and West Coast dates.  Glide Magazine gave their recent tours finale in Chicago rave reviews describing the show as “content that ranged from the most familiar of Deadhead classics to material culled, in part, from the far reaches of our solar system, Mickey Hart refuses to rest on his laurels and continues to expand music’s horizon.”

Hart and producer Ben Yonas (Zion I, Jazz Mafia) are currently finishing up his next solo album, slated for a Spring 2012 release. Fans will continue to get a sneak peaks of the new tunes at upcoming shows.

The Mother Hips & Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers at Great American San Francisco

Scott Law - The Mother Hips at Great American Music Hall December 18 2011 | (♥) DeadheadlandMy year is bookended by a couple of amazing shows featuring this combo of bands, and I feel a deep connection to both.

I saw The Mother Hips and Nicki Bluhm and The Gramblers at the Palm Ballroom in January – the night before I decided to uproot my life in Venice, and actually move to the bay area. The day after that show was the *last* time (so far) I had to drive south after some bay area music and work. Of course I have had to drive north after some LA area music and work. (~);}

It seemed appropriate for me to see them again, now nearer to the end of the year.

They played last night, December 18 2011, at Great American Music Hall in San Francisco.  A real feel good set from Nicki Bluhm and her band, and then a kick ass Mother Hips show!  The Deadhead highlights from The Mother Hips included an off the hook The Other One, a Sing Me Back Home with Scott Law, and with Nicki joining in for a rowdy Tennessee Jed. Plus tons of their own songs, a real ripping set.

And an easy drive across the Bay bridge for me.  Ahh…

Out of this WORLD Other one:

Enjoy the pictures!

He was part of our tribe, a Deadhead, someone you would see at many a show, Bay Area and beyond.

He was a very sweet and kind soul, a gentle man.  He is already missed.

If there’s a Heart of Gold Band tour goin’ on in Heaven, Tom will be vending on the Golden Road, and Dancing in The Streets.

Recently, several of Tom’s poems from the late 70’s  were shared online, and I re-share them here for the world to enjoy, and to remember and honor the spirit of our brother Tom.
Ride on Tom.

FurthurSpring2012

Furthur rumours – breaking up, or spring tour 2012?

Rumors have been flying for months (years really) that this New Years Eve weekend in San Francisco will be the LAST Furthur shows EVER!

Furthur extending the rumors is the fact that Phil Lesh is doing a few shows returning to his Phil Lesh and Friends format, a band with a long history of varied line-ups.  Phil is doing a show this weekend at the Warren  Haynes X-Mas Jam and then a set of three shows in Colorado in February with a slightly different line-up.  We previously shared that news here.

Now these rumors go on every year, and people want to believe it, partially because of Phil’s age, and also his recent efforts to open a small concert space nearer to his home, make people think he wants to get off the road.

Then, adding fuel to the fire that Furthur was finished, Bob Weir goes and announces his run of shows for Spring 2012.  These dates were replacing the solo dates he had to cancel last Summer, but some read it to mean he was moving in a new direction.

I have talked to certain people who know the people who know… and the truth of Furthur ending their touring days is – no fucking way!  Or in the words of Phil Lesh, (back when the rumors were flyin’ he was retiring back in the 90’s): It’s A Bullshit Lie!

They are taking a short break, probably about 4 months.

In addition to Phil and Bob’s extra shows, you can probably expect more from John Kadlecik’s John K Band and from Jeff Pehrson’s The Fall RiskJoe Russo is in too many bands to list, Sunshine Garcia Becker has SoVoSo  and Jeff Chimenti will be golfing and inventing medical devices somewhere!

In fact, they are all SO busy, how can we be sure Furthur is returning in the spring? First off,  Gary Lambert had to make several statements to the contrary of the rumors on his Sirius Satellite show, Tales From The Golden Road.  Gary works directly with the Dead and Furthur on many things, and he is what one would call a very reliable source. Gary also squashed rumors that Bob was ill.  Simply not true.

Then, today, someone came across a small graphical artifact that confirmed that
FURTHUR IS PLANNING A SPRING TOUR 2012!
When looking into ticket information for the Philharmonia Furthur Spring tour 2012 Header.jpg http://furthur.frontgatetickets.com/concert (featuring Phil and Bob) –  someone saw this graphic on the ticketing page.

We’re not leaking any dates, just sharing what is publicly out there.  But I would take this as a POSITIVE confirmation that we all get to go a little bit Furthur than we’ve gone before – might as well take that ride again!

Furthur does tend to announce things on Friday.  And last years Spring tour was announced around this time last year… be sure to check www.furthur.net and follow @furthurband on twitter.

Of course, DHL will always tell you when we know for sure!  We are not rumor mongers, and even defer to Furthur to make the announcements of their tours – but holy sheet! A leak like this, we got to let you know!

Furthur details as we get them…
