Setlist and Videos: Bob Weir joins Green Leaf Rustlers last night at Sweetwater #weireverywheredept

Setlist and Videos: Bob Weir joins Green Leaf Rustlers last night at Sweetwater #weireverywheredept

There’s a new band in town… Green Leaf Rustlers. Photos, videos and setlist from their performance on Friday January 19, 2018 at the Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley California.

“Hippie Tonk music. A GREAT band!!”

Gordon Taylor, Fan on the Scene

The Marin-born super-group is backed by the power trio of Barry Sless on pedal steel, Pete Sears on bass, and John Molo on drums – all three also form the cores of David Nelson Band, Moonalice, and California Kind. Add in Greg Loiacono of the Mother Hips on guitar and vocals, and CRB/As The Crow Flys singer Chris Robinson on vocals and also guitar, and you’ve got a pretty high concept formula for soaring melodies, and hard rocking face melting jams.

The shear force of the Sless/Sears/Molo machine is not to be denied, the tightness that comes from their years of playing together. And aside from his soul searing guitar playing, Greg Loiacono has, in my opinion, one of the most under-appreciated beautiful voices in rock today. And Chris Robinson is in this band as part of the band (not the leader per se), sharing vocals, and his growing guitar prowess.  I hear he’s been practicing with the best! 😉

This combo formed and played last summer at Terrapin Crossroads, and have been holed up in the hills of Marin county practicing for their debut tour. They are all Marin locals, save for Molo, but he is probably here as often as he is in his southern California home!  They are in the midst of a 6 show run, their first “tour”, and by all reports, the first two shows (Oakland on Thursday, Mill Valley on Friday) were a major blast for all who attended.

Too top it all off, Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead joined the band for a four song sit-in at the Sweetwater last night.

The band continues their 6-night mini northiern California tour with shows tonight in North Fork, Sunday in Grass Valley, Monday in San Francisco and concluding Tuesday in Felton.   Get more information from the bands Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/pg/GreenLeafRustlers/events/

Jason Crosby and Friends celebrate his birthday “No Quarter > Shakedown Street > No Quarter”

I Jason Crosby and Friends celebrate his birthday
with a Led Zeppelin/Grateful Dead sandwich!
“No Quarter > Shakedown Street > No Quarter”

Jason Crosby and an all star line up of friends celebrated Jason’s birthday last night at Terrapin Crossroads. From a Zeppelin/Grateful Dead sandwich to his signature Nirvana /Grateful Dead Mashup “Friend of the Lithium”,  a few originals from various band members, and styles fro.  jazz, rock, country, Latin, alt-everything and more, it was a vast and varied set of musical adventures and camaraderie.

Terrapin Nation regulars enjoyed a very intimate show in The Grate Room, two very full sets.

Joining Jason, in the celebration, was an all-star cast of musicians including, core band, of Stu Allen, Dan Leibowitz, Steve Adams, Jay Lane, and Cochrane McMillan, and featured guests , Reid Genauer, Grahame Lesh,  Brian Rashap, Greg Loiacono, James Nash, Greg Anton, Danny Eisenberg, Scott Guberman, Elliott Peck, Connor O’Sullivan, Eric DiBerardino, and Alex Jordan, + other special guests i may have missed.

At the same time, the rocking Kate Gaffney Band, featuring New Monsoons Jeff Miller on lead guitar, was burning it up in the Terrapin Crossroads Bar, making for another music filled night in San Rafael, California.

A full weekend of music lays ahead og us in the Bay area, with The Mother Hips  at Terrapin Crossroads in the Grate Room Saturday night, Ramblin Jack Elliott at the Sweetwater in Mill Valley tonight, David Nelson Band touring northern California (Tonight in Grass Valley, Sunday at Terrapin’s Grate Room), Paul Simon at the Greek in Berkeley… And that’s just scratching the surface of this weekends musical choices.  Jason Crosby and Friends got us primed and ready!

Happy birthday Jason Crosby, I’m honored to be your friend, and thrilled you are such a big part of our local music scene &  community!

Jason Crosby, Lebo, Jay Lane will return to Terrapin Crossroads in June as part of the Doobie Decibel System (w Roger McNamee & the legendary Pete Sears!)  – tickets are only $10 (grab your tickets now!), a highly recommended show!
