On Tuesday, April 3, 2012 the Rex Foundation will release 15 tracks from Run for the Roses – Celebrating the Music of Jerry Garcia, Robert Hunter and The Jerry Garcia Band. Recorded at The Fillmore in San Francisco, this special live album features gifted musicians performing new and tribute renditions of long-favorite songs.

On December 3, 2011 at The Fillmore in San Francisco, the Rex Foundation presented the benefit concert Run for the Roses to celebrate the music of Jerry Garcia, Robert Hunter and the Jerry Garcia Band with three sets of music featuring notable artists. Tim Bluhm and Greg Loiacono of The Mother Hips with Nicki Bluhm performed an acoustic opening set, followed by Greg Anton, Sunshine (Garcia) Becker, John Kadlecik, Melvin Seals and Mike Sugar performing a Jerry Garcia Band tribute set, and Matt Butler conducted the Everyone Orchestra, featuring Tim Carbone, Katy Gaughan and Special Guest John Morgan Kimock along with all the other musicians, to provide a finale improvisational set. The evening also introduced two new original songs penned by Greg Anton and John Kadlecik with lyrics by Robert Hunter – “‘Given’ Me The Business” and “American Spring.” With this compilation of selected tracks from each set, the evening’s unique musical experience is now available to those who could not attend the concert, while also extending the reach of the benefit so as to provide additional charitable support to the Rex Foundation.

On Tuesday, April 3, 2012, this unique musical occasion will be available for all to enjoy with downloads and CDs available from nugs.net. As a special bonus, nugs.net is offering a free album listening party during the week of the release exclusively at nugs.net/runfortheroses.
