Benefit for Ashkenaz, Berkeley
It was a night of many stars and songs, two very full sets of Jerry Garcia Tribute, with Stu Allen leading a rotating band of super musicianship from near and far.
Surprise guest Melissa Etheridge joined the line-up on a the Dixie Cups classic “Iko Iko”, which Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead often performed.
Stu Allen nails the nuance and details of Jerry. His style is natural and the sound authentic, and provided a strong foundation when this band did shift, the players including Roger McNamee, David Gans, Jordan Feinstein, Maurice Tani, Paige Clem, Michael Berry, Amy Berry, Mike Meagher, Joe Balestreri, Pamela Brandon, Jimmie Brighton and more….
An encore set of Grateful Dead music was performed by the Bay area band Totally Dead, and included a spirited Eyes Of The World featuring a full horn section.
A silent auction was held as well, to raise money for the continued operation and support of the Ashkenaz, a music and culture community center serving Berkeley California, as well as a frequent gathering place for our grateful community from around the greater SF Bay area.
Thank you Melissa Etheridge for your visit and support!
