When I Paint My Masterpiece
Loose Lucy

Robin Sylvester comes out, to play stand up bass
*Bob: Our first person to join in, well maybe our only person, Robin Sylvester. Our drummer, as drummers often are, is late – he called said he was in traffic. Does that ever happen to anyone?

(while tuning, audience members are calling out song titles)
*Bob: We’ll get to “Freebird” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and all your favorites, hold on…

Not Fade Away
about a minute into NFA Jay Lane runs on stage and jumps to his drum kit and starts playing.
End of set approx. 3.25pm

The set was scheduled for 2:30pm. Bob had a few more songs on the list, though it looks like more than they could have gotten to even if they had started on time. This one time threesome was called “Bobby and the Chew Toys” – a bit of a play on their previous band, RatDog.  This was a one time gig for BATCT – though Bob and Jay, along with Don Was on bass will be touring beginning October 16th as Bob Weir and Wolf Bros.

So, at least for now, the “Not Fade Away” is the one and only full band performance for Bobby and The Chew Toys! Both a debut and finale perhaps?

Later in the day Bob Weir came out to sit in with Grace Potter on “Friend of the Devil” (watch video here)“.

Near the end of the day, Bob Weir came back one more time, to sit in with the headliner, legendary jazz keyboard player Herbie Hancock for “Chameleon” (watch video here)

*ed. note: I am paraphrasing Bob Weir’s words best I can from memory!

Deadheadland was fortunate for the opportunity to once again attend Sound Summit, and share some of it with you here. It is magical event at a spectacular venue in a fragile environment, which is why there is only one a year.  The event benefits and nourishes the mountain… as well as all of us who get to attend.

Sound Summit is a benefit concert held once a year at the historic and majestic Cushing Memorial Amphitheatre near the summit of Mt. Tamalpais, high above Mill Valley, California (the town that Bob Weir calls home!)

Where does the money raised go?  How does it benefit Mt. Tam?
