Didn’t stand by me, no not at all!
Furthur surprises us again, not with The Beatles or Pink Floyd this time,
but by a song from the ONLY BAND THAT REALLY MATTERS: The Clash!
I asked around who picked this one, and word was it was Bob Weir.
And then… Dan shares this picture of Bob with Joe Strummer on our Facebook page. Too Fucking Awesome!
Anyone know where this is from? I’m guessing Jamaica in the mid 80’s..
UPDATE: as we learned from the comments below, this happened in Philly in ’84….
seems Strummer wanted to give Weir a haircut…. LOL

The Clash & The Dead both played at the Jamaica World Music Festival in 1980.

The Dead and the Clash meet at the intersection of Hank Williams and Burning Spear, Allen Ginsberg and John Belushi. The Clash were too musical to be just a punk band and the Dead were way more than just a hippie jam band. Labels suck!
Actually in 1984 we were all in Philly at the same hotel. The Dead, The CLash and The Knicks.
The hotel was insane. Weir sent someone to invite the clash to the party room. He showed up with his body guard and it was all fun and games until they started giving hippies haircuts. Phil Kramer, a dear long lost friend, said he’d get a haircut. Thought it was cool, a haircut by Joe strummer. But it turned weird. He decided a mohawk would be better. Weir had to send for the road crew to have some backup at the party.
Great Story!
