TXR Family Band by Ting Vogel (3)

Tickets went on sale yesterday at 4:20 at the Terrapin Crossroads Ticket Counter, for a series of 4 shows by Phil Lesh and Friends (Warren Haynes, Jimmy Herring, John Molo and Jeff Chimenti) a slightly modified version of The Phil Lesh Quintet (The Q), with Chimenti taking the keyboards instead of Rob Barraco. There were people lining up very early in the day for these tickets, and even some deadicated Terrapin regulars did not acquire tickets for all the dates. DHL was lucky, a friend got us tickets for 3 of the 4! whew!

Terrapin is usually closed on Mondays, except for special events, and they made this ticket sale a very special event. TXR Family Band by Ting Vogel (2)Ross James and Brian Lesh did an acoustic set at 4:20 for the people waiting for tickets (numbers were distributed, so you did not have to stand in line, just await your turn).

The ticket sales continued into the evening hours, it is not a speedy process there, but meanwhile, it was a great time to catch up with friends – many of which had not seen each other since the day before. Saturday was the first to sell out, then Friday & Thursday. There were a few Wednesday tickets left at the end of the evening.

Starting a little after 7, Phil Lesh and the Terrapin Family Band came out for an incredible set of music, free in the bar. Wristbands had been handed out to those waiting all day for tickets, to ensure entry. And dozens of others who came just to hear the free show were stuck outside, as the restaurant/bar had hit capacity. For those of us who go to Terrapin often, it did seem a little more crowded than your average bar show there!

A real highlight of the show was the Help> Slipknot!> El Paso > Slipknot! Franklins – this is not the EL Paso that Bob Weir does, this is a Ross James original that he does with American Jubilee and the Terrapin Family Band, and Phil really seems to enjoy playing on – excellent surprise to put it mid Slipknot!
