Buffy Saint-MarieAs the sun set, legendary Canadian singer-songwriter, visual artist, pacifist, educator, social activist, and philanthropist Buffy Saint-Marie commanded the stage with a  powerful performance that included folks songs & native chanting, her Academy Award winning “Up Where We Belong”,  and her classic anti war song “Universal Soldier”.   Rocking out with young energy, almost punk at times, chanting and singing, her message of peace was received deeply by the crowd, very in tune with the event.  Another ideal match of artist and audience.Buffy Saint-Marie

And to close the night, Cubensis – a Grateful Dead tribute band.  Their set was too short to fully blossom, as the festival did have a 9:30 end time, but it was fun and truly rocking, and got the crowd on their feet dancing.

Cece Sherman  has been singing harmonies and “Donna” parts with the band as of late, and her torchy vocals on “The Music Never Stopped” got a big woot! from the audience.  Tom Ryan, the keyboardist treated us to “Just a Little Light”.   A beautiful “Lady With A Fan>Terrapin Station” with some stellar leads by Craig Marshall.  The show was so good – until time ran out.  They managed to squeeze in an encore of “Don’t Ease Me In” before the show was done.

My appologies for not getting any pictures of Cubensis!  I did stream a few songs until my batteries died, but mostly I danced.   Cubensis are old friends of mine, and I hadn’t seen them in too long.  It was good to dance and shake my bones!

All in all a great day in the canyon, good energy, beautiful music, great friends old and newm and peaceful blessings all around.
